“But I Can’t Give You My Heart”

February 7th, 2013   •   no comments

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, many folks are feeling the pressure to illustrate their devotion with their pocketbook and plan the perfect gift, evening out or surprise. My preference might be a lovely little box of salted dark chocolate caramels. But billions of dollars are spent each year in an attempt, often unsuccessfully, to fulfill expectations of loved ones. And therein lies the rub. One such reader wrote to me last week in distress about the pressure and expectations, a word on The Inner Bottom Line that spells trouble, because all expectations ever do is set us up for [ Read More ]

“You Want an Olive Branch?”

During my January 22nd blogtalkradio.com show, I commented on a headline I had read earlier that day about some GOP leaders who were “disappointed” in President Obama’s second Inaugural Address. Why, you ask? Well, according to one of the many sources, the right-leaning Wall Street Journal, the President, in their view, didn’t offer them “an olive branch.” Really? Perhaps many of you don’t know that The Inner Bottom Line® was created in 1988 as the first television series on family values in the US. We aired from Los Angeles monthly and from the very first one, I was blessed with the presence of guests who were all, in their unique ways, incredibly accomplished individuals; people like Joe Jacobs, who identified both Vitamin C and penicillin prior to founding Jacobs Engineering, and talents like Theodore Bikel, gifted actor and musician, who I invited on the show to honor and discuss his work and legacy with Amnesty International. Because of [ Read More ]

“Mr. President, Congratulations”

November 7th, 2012   •   no comments

For eight years, ever since that electrifying moment at the DNC convention when you were first introduced to the nation and I listened to you deliver that iconic speech , I’ve known. It was that simple. I knew, without a doubt, in an instant, like I always do with really key moments and people, that someone had come onto the public scene that would change things. I sensed that my country had suddenly been given the gift of an extraordinary man and leader possessing brilliance, wisdom, common sense, and heart; a man with his feet planted firmly on the ground, [ Read More ]
